Mirrors – An Integral Part of Bathroom Furniture

Mirrors are one of the most important bathroom accessories you need in bathroom furniture. The right kind of the mirror, chosen to match the size of the vanity in proportion to the size of the bathroom in matching color combination to other bathroom furniture and in aesthetic harmony with the bathroom decor is a very important and essential investment. You need to consider an expert decorator/designer for advice about such an important part of bathroom furniture.

Beautiful mirrors and lightings go hand-in-hand. Not only well-lit mirrors will enhance the look of the bathroom and add to the beauty of bathroom furniture, it will light up the whole room by reflecting the artificial and natural light. The mirrors add ambiance and space to the room making it look luxurious and gracious. A good quality mirror, mounted at the correct height, with proper light can complete the bathroom decor perfectly.Once you have renovated the entire bathroom or replaced the vanity, you should think about going for some gorgeous looking mirrors and lightings to showcase the new vanity that you have fixed. It should be noted that the width and length of the mirror should be in correct proportion to the vanity you have installed. It should match the vanity in finish, color and decor. Otherwise, there will be an unbalanced and inharmonious look to the whole setting.

Gone are the days when any old mirror can serve as bathroom mirrors. They should be of good quality, distortion-free and should provide a clear reflection so that the everyday tasks like shaving, brushing, making-up and other beauty-regimen details can be done perfectly. Angled mirrors in sets of three can be a value addition to your bathroom. Placing two mirrors opposite each other can help in adding depth to the room. For many of us, bathroom is just more than a utilitarian place in the house. The bathroom becomes a very private place – a kind of a retreat – where you can relax with a book, where you can make a bad-hair day in to a manageable-hair day, where you will tease a tendril to curl just right and the mascara applied to great effect. A well-furnished and well-lit bathroom is where the sleeping beauty in you gets awakened.

A decorative-looking mirror in gold leaf pattern, a funky-looking framed mirror, an elegantly etched mirror – all add beauty to your bathroom decor. So consult your furniture expert to customize the mirror to just suit your likes and the needs of your bathroom decor. Enjoy the comfort of excellent mirrors every day.

Courtyards for Gorgeously Lit Homes

With the increasing space crunch, houses are more congested and packed together with no open space around them. How to bring in more light into the house? Many a time there are no windows in some rooms and how to get some daylight? Open courtyards – interior courtyards can be the answer. With their open ceiling, they add to the beauty of the interiors by bringing in daylight directly to the interiors

Open courtyards are spaces open to sky – maybe with an optional partial glass ceiling – and with walls on all four sides. Some of them are designed with some soil beds in their corners for growing some plants, even some trees. Many of the homes use the corridor space or hallway space – spaces that will be otherwise extraneous or wasted – as the location to have the open courtyard.

Since they are open to sky, they bring sunlight to parts of house which would have been dark and stuffy without the courtyard. With a well-planned open courtyard right in the heart of your home, your living room, dining room, and even your bedroom can get a fair amount of sunlight effortlessly. Even if you do not happen to have a balcony or a patio, this courtyard will serve as an effective alternative for relaxing.

Painting the walls of the courtyard in complete white or all pastels may not give an idea of spaciousness. Deep shades may give an idea of depth and add character to the overall effect. You can think of planning for a vertical garden in one or more walls of the courtyard. You can think of wall fountains on one of the walls that will be a welcome sight with its soothing like music like water-trickle.

With complete glass walls – like floor to ceiling height windows, it will be possible to completely utilize the daylight streaming in via court yards; nicely lit wide open rooms adjacent to the yard with maximum sunlight. With windows open into court yard, there will be more cross ventilation within the rooms and the entire house.

If you are thinking of having an open courtyard in your home, you need to talk to your interior decorator. You may need building permission from the authorities and adhere to all safety standards and other requisition etc. Here are some of the courtyard images from Shinichiogawa. Just see how the entire house looks spacious and well lit!
