Now that spring is in the air, you will be spending more and more time outside. You would love to have nice seats to sit and enjoy the sunshine and cool breeze – enjoying some snacks and long cool drinks. But do you have enough space to relax in your garden? With gardens tools occupying more space and children spending more time outside playing, there sure will be a space crunch in the garden, porch and patio areas. Outdoor storage containers can do double duty as benches and ottomans for nice and comfy seating as well as to store things handy and ready. You can store garden tools, seeds, fertilisers and water hoses. You may keep seasonally used personal effects like raincoats and gumshoes, and children’s playthings and sports goods. Most of the times, they can be used as dumping place for whatever we think as clutter or extra inside the house.

What would you expect from outdoor storage benches/containers? Stylish Entrance & Smart-Looking Portico – House Essentials

Curb appeal is what impresses people even before they step into the house. Many times people walking by on the footpath can look at a house and admire and appreciate the pretty picture created by a stylishly decorated entrance and smart looking portico. If you add a picturesque driveway to it, then it may greatly increase the curb appeal and value of your home.

Even if you do not have an extensive outdoor area, you can still use landscaping ideas to make the outdoors look interesting and beautiful. You yard can look full of character and interest if you utilize different features of landscaping wherever possible. You can use permanent features and variable features to make it pretty, warm and welcoming.

Permanent features are called the hardscape elements that can be constructed and need less maintenance – like statues, decorative pillars, at the entrance and bird-baths and rock formations etc just adjacent to the entrance. These can be planned during construction time with your interior decorator and built in appropriate places so that the garden looks artistic and pretty.

Variable features can be softscape elements which are trees, shrubs, bushes, creepers, plants in pots or cultivated borders along the entrance and driveway. Flower beds on both sides, pot hangers at various heights and regular intervals, pretty looking topiaries on both sides of the entrance and smaller size topiaries or plants along the steps to the entrance all will make your entrance, portico and driveway pretty.

If you have a biggish home with a lot of outdoor space, you can go for tall imposing façade and create a masterpiece work of decoration and adornments. You can have huge size pot holders with very prettily flowering shrubs or large size topiary near the entrance. On the steps leading to the door you can have more plants in ornamental pots/holders.

But if your home is moderate sized, it is best to opt for simple elegance. Do not clutter the entrance with too many plants and decorative features. Keep it to a minimum and keep the hardscape elements not too big or too large – out of size with your home look and home style. Ask the interior decorator for guidance for what will look best in your kind of home.
