Youth of today want smart looking rooms for their needs, and their storage also must look smart and fashionably matching to their room décor. Children – teens and tweens love to have colorful looking bedrooms for their use. They love to have modern style furniture that can make their rooms self-contained and sophisticated looking. Floating shelves can be a good option for their storage needs.

Whether big or small, kids think their rooms as their private domain and are keen that all their books, dresses, music and games are within reach. Today modular furniture is well planned for meeting the kids’ needs. Built-in tables, bunk beds, storage under the beds, and pullout extra trundle beds are options to explore when you are thinking of getting furniture for your teenagers.

As the children grow, their storage need also expands to accommodate more books, more music, more games and more dresses as well. Precious floor space can be saved by floating shelves that the children may need. When the kids’ rooms are not very spacious, every inch of the room needs to be utilized. These modular options are not only space saving but they enhance the look of the room as well.

Floating shelves are open type simple shelves without doors. Today some wall supported shelves which have doors are fixed as floating shelves so they can be used for storing dresses and other items too. But open type floating shelves are best as they give an open light and airy look that will make the room look less cluttered and neat.

Some of the floating shelves are wall to wall and some can be a corner options. Well made open shelves are really modular in that in case you need more storage, you can add more shelves without doing a major overhaul. Good quality shelves last long and will be able to hold quite a bit of weight also – like the heavy text books and lots of games, music etc.

Generally you can fix floating shelves wherever you have sufficient wall spaces. The best place for the floating shelves can be just above where your table/desk is normally located. Great Furniture for Your Kids’ Rooms

Once the children grow-up they love to have their rooms furnished the way they want. Actually very young children are not all that keen about how much you are spending on furnishing their room. All they are expecting is that it comes up to their idea of a dream room for themselves. So it is best to involve them in the process of choosing furniture, furnishing and accessories for their rooms.

With the space restriction that comes along with the small spaces we have today, many a time siblings have to share room. Sometimes kids’ room size can be really small – maybe just a minuscule area. Even if it is only a tiny alcove or a attic like room, a child would love the privacy his room gives and loves all the more to have a space all his own.

The operating principle will be space optimization. You have to try and make a study area, sleeping area as well as storage area in one tiny room. Bunk beds are great even if you have only one child. The lower area can be utilized as a table with storage space underneath and the upper portion – neatly furnished as a bed with safety rails etc.

Today beds come with underneath storage options that can contain any likely clutter usually happening in small spaces. You can check out beds with trundle options for accommodating your child’s friend occasionally. Floating shelves and floating desktops are good options leaving precious floor space free for that open uncluttered look.

Presently children furniture section has grown in leaps and bounds. Entire stores are selling furniture exclusively devoted only to children. Separate furniture design lines are devoted for kids’ furniture, right from baby stage, toddlers, pre teens, teens etc differently for boys, girls and twins etc, much to the delight of both parents and the children.

Here you see some very pretty-looking kids’ furniture from Kids’ Room. The corner bunk-bed with a sturdy-looking ladder and a designed safety rail will be particularly attractive to your boy. The popular below-bed storage option is very welcome in both boys and girls rooms for storage. And the open floating shelf above the writing table looks pretty as well functional.

I am sure you are keen to makeover your kids room in a way it makes you happy and leave the child hugely satisfied to have what he/she exactly wanted!

Bunk Beds – Built-In Shelves – Great Space Savers

With a small house or apartment, there is always space crunch. Most of the times, kids’ rooms have a lot of problem with lack of space. Especially when siblings have to share the room, it becomes a big problem to find enough space for two sets of cots, two dressers, two tables and other storage facilities which make a room look too much cluttered.

A good option is to have bunk beds for the children. Bunk beds have now become most popular with children due to a number of innovative designs and adaptations that are possible with these bunk beds. Formerly bunk beds used to be just individual beds – one over the other – with not much storage except maybe under the beds.

But presently most of the bunk beds are made alongside the longest of the wall and they try to utilize all vertical space so that precious floor space is not eaten up. Bunk beds come in a variety of shapes and combinations like twin beds over twin beds with a common staircase in between them that allows kids to reach the upper beds easily.

One option takes care of the beds and storage space in an ideal combination. Wardrobes or storage shelves adjoin both the top and bottom beds in an alternate manner. Other option will be for the top bunk bed to jut out from the middle and both sides in the upper portion have built in wardrobes or shelves, and the space under the upper deck bed is used for pull out tables on either side for writing/working.

The other option is loft beds that have table chairs and shelves under the top bed with the bottom bed built vertically so each bed will have their own shelves and writing tables etc separate. Some times the table and chairs are not built into the bunk beds. They are arranged away from the bunk beds along the walls so that there is enough walking space around the beds.

It is essential to look out for safety features with kids’ room furniture. The stairs or ladders should always have handles on them. They should not be too narrow or hidden so that children find it difficult to get down during night time if need be. Also the upper bunk beds are to be used by the older kids only and they must have sturdy safety hand rails on them.

Bunk Beds – Lovely Space Saving Option For Kids Room

Bunk beds are the most favored bed options in kids’ rooms when there is a crunch for space. If there are siblings sharing the bedroom and no extra space to put two cots comfortably together, bunk beds can come handy. Shortage of floor space can be best managed with modular storage options and modern style bunk beds with foldable table and desk options.

Many times two beds are stacked one above the other with a ladder option for easy climbing. Modular furniture manufacturers are today exploring more new options of designs for bunk beds and new versions of bunk beds, so that better table/desk and storage options are accommodated in a more innovative way and that these new design bunk beds look more colorful and attractive.

Even when siblings need not necessarily share the bedroom, bunk beds are still preferred options so that if friends or cousins are visiting, there can be an extra bed at a pinch. Many a time the children use the lower berth of the double-decker bed as day bed area where they can work or study and keep the upper bed for sleeping option without bothering to clean up the lower bed.

Wood is one of the materials often selected for bunk beds. A combination of wood and metal combination or metal and molded polycarbonate material is also used – especially for table tops, chairs etc. Gone are the days when only wood grained and sober shades were used for bunk beds and built in tables, chairs, storage spaces etc.

Today bunk beds come in vivid colors. Most manufacturers use more than one color while manufacturing bunk beds. They are generally made to match the wall décor – with contrast color splashes across the room to make it look very fresh and very attractive. With area rugs, cushions and draperies to match the bunk bed, the children will love the bunk beds.

Here are some images of beautiful looking bunk beds from Colombini Casa. All are modular beds in modern style with all storage options and table/desk options. Right from the time of birth, all of us start acquiring multifarious things. As the children grow, there is an ever increasing need for storage in our homes to organize things neatly. Childrens beds and kids beds and kids’ furniture stand in need of as much storage if not more. Think of the innumerable playthings, books, games and other items that we keep buying for our children! Once the child starts growing, it is essential to inculcate a discipline for bringing order and neatness in the child. By involving the child when putting away the playthings after the playtime, keep all the clothes, baby blankets, baby linen and other items in an orderly manner can make the child understand that the room needs to be kept tidy and neat.

As the children grow, instead of yelling and shouting at the children for not keeping the rooms tidy, act proactively for cleanliness. Ask the child to join you in tidying up the room on a regular basis. Help him in keeping the things organized. Do not take over the cleaning part all on yourself, leaving out the kid which will make the kid feel not responsible for cleaning it up. Get enough storage installed so that the child can have no difficulty in keeping back the games, playthings, books and other paraphernalia where they belong. Allocate space for each of the above things. Keep the underneath bed storage for storing extra linen and bed sheets etc along with heavy clothing used maybe only during winter only.

Get a nice chest with cushion on top which can be used for storing all of his /her games, playthings etc. The chest can have dividers inside so that playthings can be segregated and stored and so easy for retrieval when needed. Please learn to give away or throw away old games and broken down toys which will only clutter the available space. Getting a good shelf or a closet for all the day-to-day need like clothing, jackets and shoes is again a must. As the child grows, a worktable with underneath drawers and shelves to hold his books along with a couple of floating shelves over the table to keep other stuff and extra books are very much needed children’s furniture. Children’s rooms can look lively and vibrant with beautiful wall decor and gaily printed or vivid coloured bed linen. They do not need to have too heavy furniture as the space may be at an optimum. Children’s beds are available with storage options underneath the bead – like drawers and other headboard options also to make them more utilitarian as well.

For a blended and harmonious look, you need to choose the wall decor, window treatments, and all the children room furniture carefully. Many times while you are trying a makeover of your kids’ rooms, the easiest and most effective change can be brought by changing the wall decor only. Consult your interior decorator for good ideas for an overall ambiance.

Most importantly, take your child’s ideas. If siblings share the room, if there are likely different likings, give one wall to each kid for decorating it as they please, but offer suggestions so that there is more a blended look and not violently contrasting or conflicting overall effects.

A bunk bed with bedding options above and a work-table and storage options below may be a good space saving device. If your children’s room is spacious looking you can provide each child with their own working space, storage space as well as their own bedding as well. When they share a room, check for canopied bed options as they offer more privacy as something totally their own.

Storage spaces can be had with a dresser to hold all the clothing and a night stand to hold important things like a bedside lamp, an alarm clock and books etc. Underneath-bed storage has become the favourite way to store the extra linen or in some cases trundle beds are available for sleep-over friends or for visiting cousins etc.

Wall treatment options are best to make the room child-friendly. Theme ideas for painting on flowers, butterflies or fairies for girls and aeroplanes cartoon figures or sports themes for boys are commonly done now. Beautiful looking wall decals in children-friendly themes are plenty available and your children can pick what they want in their rooms.
