Kitchen is one of the high-traffic areas of your home. Especially in small houses and apartments, with working moms raising young children, kitchens bear the brunt of morning hour rush. Because of the wear and tear that happens over time, kitchen may need a makeover sooner than other areas of our home. A quick makeover can breathe new life into an overworked dreary kitchen.
First of all take an inventory of the kitchen. Unintentionally you collect so many items that pile up and seem to overrun everywhere. First make a list of things that need to be thrown away ruthlessly. Once rid of the clutter, you can pay attention to the walls, flooring, counter tops and storage options of the kitchen to check easy options to make the kitchen look spick and span.
Check the condition of wall surface. Painting over can be the easiest and often most effective way to create a new fresh look to the kitchen walls. Overall kitchens have very little wall area. Discuss with your interior decorator what areas can be painted; what color to make the best effect. Creams, pale yellows, off-whites all give a feeling of spaciousness to the room and set off the cabinets and furniture elegantly.
In space-starved studio apartments and small-size homes of today – wall units, cabinets, kitchen islands floating shelves, pot holders – there are so many storage options – some wall mounted and some freestanding. Check the condition of all these storage units. Clean the glass shutters and grime off all the storage units. If they are in basically good condition, a lick of paint should help greatly.
If the storage units are made of hardwood, painting it will make them look as good as new. But if they are made of composite wood products like hard-board or particle board, you may have to replace the veneer with a new one or you can lightly sandpaper it and paint over it. You can remove the old hardware and replace it with new hardware for added effect.
Now check the counter tops. You may need to get them newly done as these are most used areas. Getting quality counter tops can serve better in the long run. Here are some beautiful counter tops from Viola Park. With Paper Stone worktops, stunning back splashes and lacquered base units, they are stunningly beautiful and come mostly as prefabricated and ready for installation.
I am sure you are getting ready to make-over your dreary kitchen into your dream kitchen?
